News on the Chelsea Winter Trail

IMG_0428Hi folks and happy New Year! 2016 is shaping up to be an eventful year and we are happy to kick off another season of the Community Winter Trail along the Chelsea railway corridor.

The winter trail along the railway corridor is 10 years old this year, and it’s grown into a well loved feature of winter recreation in Chelsea. This 16 km corridor connects 8 residential neighbourhoods, and will be extended an additional 2 km south this year, to chemin Loretta.  This joint venture between Chelsea Trails and the Municipality of Chelsea requires both volunteer hours and financial support.  Volunteers from Chelsea Trails do the brush cutting, install signage and do pre-season trail maintenance, while trail lovers and local businesses donate cash to support winter grooming and maintenance work. Alain Piche of Chelsea Trails is organizing 3 weekend workbees along the tracks. Next one is this Saturday, 31 October. If you’re interested in joining us, call Alain for more info: 819-827-3750

Kyra Shaughnessy performed an intimate house concert last Sunday, October 18th, to 46 people at the home of Roberta Walker and Sandy Foote. It was a warm and folkcy concert that raised $1,200 in support of the winter trail. Special thank you to Eleanor Crowder who donated the concert, and Roberta and Sandy for their donation and home. And, of course, thanks to Kyra for her beautiful voice and music.
