Sentiers Chelsea Trails is working with the Municipality of Chelsea and other community partners to bring the Chelsea Community Winter Trail back for the 2015 season.
We need your help! Some sections of the railway corridor are obstructed by weeds and brush. We need volunteers who can come out and help clear the corridor so we can have a great winter trail.
Thanks to all the volunteers who came out last Saturday, Nov. 15th to help clear the northern section of the corridor. On Saturday, Nov. 29 we will work on the south end.
When: Saturday, Nov. 29 & Dec. 6 from 9am to 12pm.
Where: Meet at the intersection of chemin Mill or chemin Patrick and the railway crossing at 9am.
What: Useful equipment includes gloves, safety glasses, pruners, shears and scythes. SCT will have gas powered brush cutters. Please bring your our safety equipment if you have it.
Please let us know if you are available on Saturday. We hope to have at least 3 crews of 4 to 6 people going south and north along the corridor. Dec. 6th is also scheduled for another section of the track.
Indicate your availability at: http://doodle.com/awcbcibexqag46yp We will confirm by email.

Work continues on the municipal trail near chemin Des Pommiers. Volunteers are seen here constructing boardwalks over wet areas. The Municipality of Chelsea provides tools and materials and Chelsea Trails volunteers provide labour. This trail now stretches from Route 105 to Winnisic Road with a connection to chemin des Pommiers

Chelsea’s first official community trail signs have now been installed to mark three trailheads on the Des Pommiers trail, located in the Cascades area of Chelsea. One trailhead is located near the top of Chemin Des Pommiers, and the second is located on Route 105, several hundred metres north of Pine Road and the third is on Chemin Winnisic.

On a rainy Sunday afternoon, over 50 people attended a house concert fundraiser with singer/song writer Rick Fines. Based in Peterborough and with some 30 years learning from blues and folk masters, Fines treated the crowd to a spectacular concert of original songs and informal story-telling. Along with blues riffs, intimate character portraits, and Louis Armstrong mouth-trumpet, he gave us the coolest music history lesson, from ragtime to blues/jazz, with a special tribute to the legendary Bessie Smith.
The event raised $1250.00 for donations for the Chelsea Winter Community Railway Trail. For the past several years Sentiers Chelsea Trails has worked closely with the Municipality of Chelsea to support the creation of a non-motorized, groomed and multi-functional community trail along the railway corridor. Appropriate for skiing, walking, running and snowshoeing, this beautiful trail is a community building link between Chelsea neighbourhoods during the winter months. The consistently positive and supportive outpouring of response from residents is a tribute to its success.
Please show your support for the Winter Community Railway Trail, by contributing to our fundraising efforts – stay tuned -and by sending us your Winter Trail Stories. And, of course, by enjoying the trail!
A special thank you to Roberta Walker and Sandy Foote for their warm hospitality and organizing the gig.

The new Active Transportation Master Plan was presented at the September Chelsea Municipal Council meeting. It will be approved at the next council meeting in October. Mayor Caryl Green is inviting Chelsea residents to consult the Plan and submit their comments.
The Plan is a major accomplishment for our municipality and Sentiers Chelsea Trails is proud to have participated in its creation and development – we were actually the instigators of this project. The Master Plan will guide the municipality and SCT in our future planning and building of community trails, biking paths and multiple-use trails for years to come. This is why we invite SCT members and supporters to read the Master Plan on the municipality’s Website at http://www.chelsea.ca/?q=node/61 and submit your comments and suggestions at the following email address [email protected].
Please note that the Master Plan is available only in French at the moment.

His work with Jackson Delta (for 15 years) brought nominations from both the Juno and the Handy Awards. He has played for legendary blues piano player Pinetop Perkins, songstress Colleen Peterson, folk icon Penny Lang and many others. He toured from Newfoundland to B.C. to the Arctic last year alone, bringing his understanding of blues, finger-style and bottleneck guitar.
