2020 Chelsea Ski Challenge

2020 Chelsea Ski Challenge

Dear SCT friends,

Mark your calendars: January 26 is the date for the Chelsea Ski Challenge under the banner of “Winter Fun Days.” It’s an opportunity to celebrate the Winter Community Trail. You are invited to come out and enjoy some skiing, walking, fat biking, or snow shoeing on the Community Trail from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

There will be introduction to cross country skiing workshops for children and adults at the CLSC building, 490 Route 105.  More detailed information on activities, times and places will soon be available on the municipality’s website (www.chelsea.ca) and SCT website (https://sentierschelseatrails.org/).

Volunteers needed

In the meantime, we need some volunteers to help us on Sunday, January 26. Following are some of the many tasks to be performed: managing traffic at access points, welcoming skiers and other participants, serving beverages and snacks, building snow tracks on roads for skiers, setting up and dismantling of installations at access and activity points. If you can come out for a few hours on January 26th, please email Lyse Huot at [email protected]. Thank you in advance!

New Set of Historical Panels along the Community Winter Trail in the Mill Road area.

Chelsea Trails is once again partnering with the Gatineau Valley Historical Society on a third set of interpretive panels along the railway corridor featuring scenes from Chelsea’s past. The previous two years have seen the installation of a series of historical panels along the railway in the Kirk’s Ferry/Larrimac and Cascades sectors. This year, new panels will highlight the Mill Road area, including the site of the former Chelsea train station, the original English Chelsea Elementary School building and the former section foreman’s house.

Featured here, former Chelsea Elementary students, RJ Hughes and Harold Reid located the sites, while Chelsea Trails Alain Piché marked the placing of the posts for the panels and GVHS rep Louise Schwartz looked on. Photo credit: Heidi von Graevenitz.
