Second Annual Winter Community Trail Celebration on Sunday, Feb. 22, 1-4pm.

The Municiplality of Chelsea and Chelsea Trails are hosting their Second Annual Winter Community Trail Celebration on Sunday, Feb. 22, 1-4pm.   The celebration will be held on the tracks, and up at Larrimac Golf Course, at the same time as Jackrabbits.

There will be food and activities, info booths, a scavenger hunt (on the tracks), and snow shoeing with Collines en Forme.  And XC Ottawa will be there to demonstrate xc ski technique at the Golf Course.  We invite everyone to participate, to join us for hot chocolate and cookies, and even the scavenger hunt on the tracks.  And we encourage those who can, to ski to or from the event along the tracks.  For more information, please contact: Isabelle Werlen (Community Development Officer, Municipality of Chelsea 819-827-6202[email protected]) or, consult www.chelsea.ca.

A special thank you to this year’s sponsors of the Winter Community Trail,  Nordik Spa-Nature, PhysioSport Chelsea and Greg Christie’s.

Chelsea Community Winter Trail – Update

Greetings,

What a winter! Lots of extreme cold, but not much snow.  A classic ski track has been set and the winter trail is groomed every week between Farm Point and Mile Hill.  Our longtime community partners,  Rob Lafleur and Bob Walsh of Lafleur de la Capitale,  are working hard, but there has not yet been sufficient compacted  snow to get over the level of the rails and set the kind of track that makes the winter trail such a treat.  It will happen.

Sentiers Chelsea Trails has worked with the Municipality over the past several years to ensure the grooming of the Chelsea Community Winter trail over a distance of 16 km for skiing, snowshoeing, walking, running and sledding. We have also greatly appreciated the generous donations of residents and local businesses that help to offset the cost of maintenance.

To support the trail and get valuable coupons offered by our Corporate Trail Leaders, please visit our website at  https://sentierschelseatrails.wordpress.com.

Our trail is a dog friendly zone.  Please ensure you follow up after your pooch and keep the trail clean.

Happy Trails!

We need you! Step up to support the Chelsea Community Winter trail

For several years, Chelsea residents have enjoyed 16 kilometers of groomed passage on a multiple purpose winter trail, on the railway corridor which follows Gatineau River, but it’s not a sure thing.  The Municipality contributes  to the maintenance and tracking cost but we need contributions from people who love the trail if we want to keep it open, year after year.  To help secure the future of the winter trail project along the Chelsea railway right of way, Sentiers Chelsea Trails established the Chelsea Community Trail Fund 2014-2015 to raise money for trail maintenance.  All contributions will go directly to the cost of trail maintenance and operation.

The geography of Chelsea, a long and narrow municipality stretching over 23 km north to south, bordered by the Gatineau River and the Gatineau Hills, makes the Chelsea railway right of way an important north-south trail link joining the neighbourhoods of Chelsea Village, Tenaga, Gleneagle, Kirk’s Ferry, Larrimac, Burnett, Cascades and Farm Point.  The trail offers some of the best views of the beautiful Gatineau River and creates the basis for a seasonal, north-south linear park for Chelsea residents.

The trail, during favourable snow conditions, is tracked to provide a surface for cross-country skiing (classic and skate), snowshoeing, walking, running and sledding. Motorized vehicles are prohibited.  The Chelsea Community Winter Trail, is easily accessible and flat, allowing for residents of all ages and abilities to get out and engage in a variety of fun, safe and healthy winter activities.
